WIRELESS FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers regarding our Wireless Communication.
On the Express packages, your upload speed equals 10% of your max download speed. So on an Express 20Mbps package, your upload speed is 2Mbps. For businesses or higher upload speed requirements, our Professional packages upload speed equals 30% of your max download speed. On the Professional 50Mbps package, your upload speed is 15Mbps.
You can expect 8-15ms average latency from Johannesburg to servers in Johannesburg on the WIRUlink RUSH Network. This makes for excellent low latency gaming! We also have direct peering in Cape Town, Durban, London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt to make sure you get the best latency to local and international destinations.
When ordering, you have the option to choose a wifi router of your choice or make use of your existing compatible router bought elsewhere.
Being a disrupter in the market, we believe customers should get true uncapped Wireless Broadband, without having to worry about technical jargon. The Logical Wireless Network is powered by the latest Fixed Wireless Broadband technology available. We can offer higher speeds at lower prices to thousands of customers on the Logical Wireless Network.
The technology requires clear LoS (Line of Sight) between your roof mounted radio and one of our Logical Wireless Ready towers in your area. Go to www.wiru.co.za/coverage to see if there’s Logical Wireless Ready coverage at your location.
We are always looking at ways to make the best possible internet access affordable for everyone. Because of the new improved hardware, a new customer installation costs us over R7 500 per installation. Instead of simply passing this total once-off cost on to customers, we give customers three rental options (Month to Month, 12 Months or 24 Months) of how they want to pay for this at heavily subsidised rates.
We believe that the internet should be completely uncapped with no strings attached. To ensure that other users that abuse the network (downloading 24/7) does not negatively impact your internet speeds and experience, we have introduced Fair Use Notification thresholds on each package. Instead of shaping, throttling or disconnecting a user reaching these, ultra high, usage thresholds, we will simply notify them to reduce their data usage or upgrade to a package with a suitable Fair Use threshold. Should the user keep on exceeding these thresholds, Logical Wireless will give the customer one month notice of cancellation to protect the service of other users. Don’t worry, you should never reach even 50% of the Fair Use threshold under heavy internet use conditions.
SATELLITE FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers regarding our Satellite Communication.
BettaSat is a high-speed always-on Internet access service delivered via Satellite by Vox.
The service is ideal for any consumer or business requiring an affordable high-speed always-on internet access service. YahClick gets you online instantly to surf the web, watch videos, download mail, etc. and is available on a range of service plans with speeds up to 20Mbps.
VSAT terminals are installed at your sites by authorised installers. Each terminal consists of a small dish installed outside at a carefully selected position to ensure it has a ‘clean’ path between the dish and the satellite. The dish connects via a coaxial cable to the satellite modem installed indoors, delivering internet access via its ethernet port(s). The satellite ‘relays’ signals in the Ka-frequency band, between the VSAT terminal and an earth-station in Frankfurt, ‘connecting’ the VSAT terminal to the Internet.
The service is available throughout South Africa, except for small areas in the Northern Cape and North West Province. Coverage is delivered via 6 high-power spot-beams, each focused on a specific part of the country, overlapping in some areas.
The further a customer is located away from the centre of the spot-beam (where signals are the strongest), the weaker the signals become. For sites towards the edges of the beams, we compensate for the ‘weaker’ signal by using a larger dish. The 2 dish sizes being deployed for this service are: 74cm (oval) and 98cm (round) and this is dependent on feasibility.
There are numerous packages available to choose from. The advertised speeds are maximum “burstable” throughputs. YahSat’s network capacity planning aims to ensure that during the busiest hours of usage, the throughput over the satellite path does not drop below 30% of the link’s maximum speed.
To ensure voice quality, a network connection must support a feature called ‘Quality Of Service (QoS)’ that prioritises voice traffic over normal data traffic (e.g. http, YouTube, torrents, etc.). If you need to run telephone calls, please ensure that you choose one of the BettaSat ‘Voice’ enabled service plans. These are specifically designed to prioritise voice and supports between one to eight concurrent G.729 encoded voice calls – depending on the service plan selected.
YahClick uses sophisticated acceleration techniques to enable high-speed performance over high-latency satellite links. Without this feature, TCP connections would only deliver a throughput of around 100Kbps – simply because of the round trip latencies involved over satellite connections.
These acceleration technologies cannot accelerate traffic running inside tunnels. Tunnel payloads are commonly encrypted in any event, making it impossible to analyse the packet payload to attempt acceleration.
When running VPN tunnels over BettaSat, customers need to implement their own TCP acceleration system. Otherwise the performance will be limited to around 100Kbps – regardless of service plan being used.
